The New MIUI 8 Global ROM
First of all, before we dive into all the technical aspects of the Mi User Interface (MIUI) 8 Global ROM, let us take a look at the official introduction video.

Xiaomi have made it a fundamental goal to ensure this update is pleasing to the eye, user friendly, understandable and most of all; fun to use!
Rolling Out to The Devices
MIUI users are among the most active on the Internet, so to create a phone and update system that is not only user friendly, but business ready is a must. In accordance to UMIndex research, at least 60% of mobile phones are Mi smartphones using the MIUI.
A few months ago, the MIUI 8 global build got released in India; it is now time for us to experience all it has to offer. Xiaomi have finally started rolling out the MIUI 8 Global Stable build, you will receive the updates from Over the Air (OTA) on your phones through the “Updater” application.
The current devices that are able to support the new MIUI 8 ROM update are: 3S/Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Note, Mi Max 32GB, Redmi, Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi Note 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime
The below devices were the first to experience the MIUI 8 ROM new update on the 23rd Aug when it was initial rolled out:

Devices that received the update a few days later on the 25th Aug are:
Redmi Note 2
All the above bullet-pointed devices received their update through OTA transmission.
Over the course, other Mi and Redmi phones will also be applicable for the update. MIUI 8 users are also able to personally download the ROM by downloading the MIUI 8 Recovery/Fastboot ROM package – see further down for more information.
MIUI 8 Features
The new MIUI 8 update has many great features that will enhance the Xiaomi phones capability, understanding and design outlook. They include:
Allowing users to create a scrolling screen-shot – this is a great way to share more information at any one given time
Redesigned MIUI 8 Calculator will help make short work of intensive math problems
Quick ball – this is designed to allow easy access and use of the phone with one hand
New templates will allow you to customize your notes in a beautiful way
An all -new Gallery for you to store and edit the photographs that you have taken or received
Dual Apps – have the ability to simultaneously sign into two mobile apps, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and more, at any time
Second space – allows users to create different passwords or fingerprints in order to access different profiles on the mobile phone device, each profile will have unique wallpapers, apps, files etc.
Video editing enables you to mix up your videos with text options, music and filters
Saved phrases – allows you to quickly reply using your own custom made phrases
New Application manager – displays all browser windows in a top to bottom function, and current running programs in a left to right order
Caller ID – identifies any received phone calls, meaning you can avoid scams, or search for well-known numbers when dialing out (India only)
Hindi T9 – this will allow our Indian users to search for more contacts using the T9 dial-er.
It must be noted that devices that are running MIUI based on the Android 4.4, will not be able to support the MIUI 8 Global ROM“Dual Apps” and “Second Space” features.
Other System Features
Xiaomi have spared no expense in delivering a new update to their mobile phone devices. Just take a look at the following internal system features that have been implemented:
Messaging now has a new sound for any delivered messages you send to your friends, family and any other contacts
Homescreen has been optimized in a lot of ways – it now allows Task Manager stability as well as displaying the UI details within Task Manger, they have also designed a landscape mode to run Task Manager
The phones camera image quality has been improved, so you can take more professional photos
There is a new animation for when you successfully connect to Wi-Fi networks, as well as an array of other small animations to help you understand what is going on
New Mi Lanting font, which Xiamoi say that it allows users to read text easier
There are different sound alerts and notification vibrations for various aspect features in the phone
An optimized floating notification feature for any incoming calls
The Gallery system has a new automatic adjustment for when you share photos, it also allows users to doodle, add stickers, select multiple photos and edit.
The Settings tab now will display save and available Wi-Fi network connections first
Energy saving mode – will automatically cancel any unneeded background applications, downloads and updates in synchronization of your battery becoming low on energy.
MIUI 8 Fixes
Nothing is ever truly perfect, aspects and features need fixing. The new update that has been rolled out by Xiaomi fixes bugs and problems from the old system in an attempt to keep users happy.
Developers and designers have been working intensely not only to add new features, but to fix the old problems that previous updates have caused.
The errors that were displayed on the Wi-Fi details page have been fixed and amended. The accessibility to the Home screen has also been debugged and fixed.
The file explorer wouldn’t allow users to see the files that were saved from dual apps, this has been fixed.
Xiaomi designers and developers have worked together to redesign the colors used in the standard applications on the phone. They are visually more appealing, cleaner and bring a youthful look to the outcome of the phone.
Also, sometimes the Quick Ball would disappear randomly, but developers have made sure this will not be another occurrence.

So, how do so many users download and upgrade to the new MIUI 6 Global Stable ROM?
If you do not want to download the update from any of the links we have mentioned above, there is an alternative.
Users of MIUI are able to download it through their “Updater” app that is on the phones system. This will automatically download the specific and required update to the phone that you have.
But what if you do not have any of the above mentioned smartphone or tablet devices? Can you still download the MIUI on smartphones developed by Samsung, Sony, LG, One Plus, Nexus and HTC?
The answer is yes.
Xiaomi offer this UI to be flashed onto the above smartphone devices.
Although you currently cannot download the most recent MIUI 8 ROM update, you are able to get your hands on the previous models. Obviously not all Samsung, Song, HTC etc smartphone devices will support MIUI, only a few will; so you will need to know which ones will. Previous Version Background History
We feel it is always important to know where technology has come from, how it got from A to Z, or in this case 1 to 8.
This is where we will look at the previous versions of MIUI, and how they have lead us to the recently released version 8 ROM.
The initial release date of MIUI V1 was back in August of 2010.
Versions 2 and 3 were a simple redesign of the systems UI, bringing us up to April 2012.
Version 4 of MIUI was released 10 months later in February 2013, and added an anti-virus feature to the firmware system.
In December 2014, MIUI V5 was released, but they had a few complications to overcome. Google had a disagreement with the Chinese government, so the Google services were removed from the Chinese version upon release.
Version 6 took the groundwork of MIUI and once again redesigned the UI of the system.
The MIUI V7 was aimed to create a more customer friendly and focused firmware.
