So you have just installed MIUI 8 on your phone but find out it has no Google Apps installed? There are several GApps installer packages we posted in this blog as well as few Play Store apk files. However, many users still feel it difficult to install them or ended up with unsuccessful installation. There is a complete free package like Open Gapps but it requires to be flashed through TWRP custom recovery. Luckily, there is another Indonesian MIUI fan who shared a ready-to-use Google Play Store installer package (.apk) which is compatible for Redmi Note 3 running MIUI 8 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. This package contains several APK files including Google Services Framework, Account Manager, Play Services, and so on. Actually we have also posted similar package before but that one is for MIUI 7 or MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

How to install
This has been tested on Redmi Note 3 MIUI 8 China Dev ROM. However, the process should be similar on almost any Xiaomi devices running Lollipop-based MIUI 8.
Step 1 – Download the GApps package from the link above into your computer.
Step 2 – Use Winrar or 7zip to extract the package. You will then get 6 .apk files.
Step 3 – Now transfer those APKs to the internal storage of your phone.
Step 4 – Now install each apk one by one in order sequence as following :
- Google Services Framework
- Google Account Manager
- Google Play Services
- Google Calender Sync
- Google Contact Sync
- Google PlayStore
During install process, you will be asked for confirmations. Make sure you “Allow” all process.
Step 5 – Do not open each app after installing. Not until all apps are installed.
Step 6 – Once all apps have been successfully installed, you may open PlayStore and login using your Google Account as usual.
Step 7 – Finished! From here you can then install any other GApps like GMail, G Drive, Hangouts, etc.
Play Store crashes – If this happens, you may need to firstly uninstall all of GApps above and then reset your phone. This should not happen on any fresh MIUI 8 installation.
Error retrieving from server – Follow this simple workaround : go to settings >> Installed apps >> scroll to and tap Google Play Store >> clear data >> tap OK > tap force stop >> and then tap OK. Next, scroll to and tap Google Play Services > clear data >> tap OK >> tap force stop >> tap OK and reboot your device.
What’s next? You may also need to check whether the one installed is newer version or not. You are free to update Play Store to latest version once the newer one is released.
