This guide shows how to install TWRP custom Recovery on your Xiaomi Mi 4c either via ADB method or Recovery method. However, this requires a bit bravery of yours as well as some basic knowledge of ADB. Installing custom Recovery app on your phone allows you to install custom script like SuperSU, thus you can gain root access on it.

TWRP is being well-known for its features as well as its easiness. Unlike many stock recoveries, TWRP allows its users to navigate easily through all of its features using touchscreen-enabled feature. So instead of using button combinations, users can simply use their fingers to tap on any menu they like.

Method #1 : Custom Recovery

The first method is applicable if another custom Recovery, such as CWM or older TWRP version, has been installed on your phone.

Step 1 – Download TWRP v3 and extract it on your phone. You’ll have a file ended with .img as a result.

Step 2 – Connect your phone to computer using its USB cable, then transfer that TWRP recovery .img file into your phone.

Step 3 – Now disconnect your phone from computer.

Step 4 – Boot your phone into Recovery mode.

Step 5 – Choose Install or Flash – depends on what Recovery.

Step 6 – Choose Image instead of .zip.

Step 7 – Locate / browse the location of recovery.img file you’ve just transferred.

Step 8 – Choose Recovery when the system ask you to select partition.

Step 9 – If you are using older version of TWRP, simply Swipe to start flashing.

Step 10 – Just wait till the flashing process is complete. Once done, simply Reboot to recovery and enjoy TWRP v3.

Method #2 : ADB / Fastboot Method

Never have a custom Recovery before? Then this method is for you. Simply follow the steps thoroughly and you’ll have TWRP v3 installed on your Mi4c.

Special requirements: Make sure your phone bootloader has been unlocked.

Step 1 – Download ADB files package and extract it on your computer.

Step 2 – Download TWRP v3 and extract it on your phone. You’ll have a file ended with .img as a result.

Step 3 – On your phone, enable USB Debugging on your Mi 5 phone. In case if you have not known it yet, simply go to Settings >> About Phone >> tap 7 -10 time on the MIUI version. That will activate Developer Options menu. Now go to Settings >> Developer Options then enable USB Debugging..

Step 4 – Copy the recovery.img and paste it in the same folder of the ADB files.

Step 5 – Inside that folder, where ADB files are located, hold down Shift button on your keyboard and right-click. Now choose “Open command window from here”.

Step 6 – Connect your Mi4c into your computer using its USB cable.

Step 7 – In command prompt window, type this command :

adb reboot bootloader

Step 8 – Your phone may ask you to confirm on USB Debugging permission. Simply tap OK.

Step 9 – Wait till your phone reboots into bootloader. Once its done, type in this command :

fastboot flash recovery.img

Step 10 – Just wait till the flashing process completely finished. Once done, issue the following command :

fastboot reboot

That’s all. Once your phone reboot in Normal mode, you can try reboot it back into Recovery mode and you should now see TWRP interface.
