Considered the most recent phablet device in 2016, Xiaomi Mi Max is equipped with 6.44 inches touchscreen display. Being a new Android device, there are not many root tools compatible to gain root access on this most wide smartphone. How to root Mi Max then? For you who just could not be patient, installing SuperSU is the most possible way. Developed by Chainfire, SuperSU is the most popular root exploit that works on many Android device, including several MIUI devices. Recently, the developer has released its latest Beta version with support for Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android N firmwares.

In this page, we show you few steps to flash SuperSU and gain native root access on Mi Max running MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This involves flashing TWRP custom recovery as well. However, rooting may void your phone warranty so please proceed with full awareness and root responsibly.
Before you proceed, please be aware that we hold no responsibility of any damage on your phone of the risk of following this guide. Please do not forget to create backup.
- Install either USB ADB Drivers or Mi PC Suite you have downloaded onto your computer. This is necessary to make sure your computer can recognize your phone.
- Extract the Minimal ADB Fastboot files you have downloaded. Use either Winzip or Winrar.
- Copy or transfer SuperSU .zip file into your phone’s internal storage. You may also want to firstly rename it to something shorter like SuperSU.zip instead of its previously very long name.
- The most important part, please firstly install TWRP Recovery on Mi Max.

STEPS TO INSTALL
Steps 1 – Reboot your Mi Max into TWRP Recovery. Simply turn your device off and then press Volume Up (+) and Power buttons simultaneously.
Steps 2 – On TWRP interface, firstly swipe to confirm / allow system modification.
Steps 3 – Now in TWRP main menu, choose Install.
Steps 4 – Locate the SuperSu.zip file you have copied in your phone’s storage.
Steps 5 – Swipe to confirm Flash. Just wait the flashing process that shall be done in few seconds.
Steps 6 – Once done flashing, do not choose Reboot System. Choose Wipe Cache/dalvik instead. Choose Back when you’ve done wiping cache.
Steps 7 – You’ll be back to TWRP main menu. From there, choose Reboot to reboot your phone into normal mode.
Steps 8 – It may take up to 10 minutes to reboot which is longer than usual but it is normal.
That’s it. Once your device is fully turned on, you can install Root Checker app from Play Store to verify the root access.
