Xiaomi will be releasing the new MIUI 10 as the newest upgrade to all Redmi & Mi cellular devices. By now it is well known that the MIUI skin is a customization based upon the operating system of the Android. Almost all Xiaomi phones come with it already installed and carries countless customization possibilities.
A number of customers may have begun using the MIUI 9, making the primary concern a question of whether or not their phone is able to be upgraded to the new MIUI 10 ROM. Luckily, all of those questions will be answered here including when the release date will be, what new features will be available, and which phones will support the new upgrade.
The future of MIUI custom ROM updates for Xiaomi phones has been fully disclosed. Up until recently, all of Xiaomi’s smartphones have obtained all available updates, however, the company has stated that the MIUI 9 will mark six Xiaomi devices’ final upgrade that they can receive.
Those devices are the Mi 2/2s, Redmi Note 4G, Mi 4i, Redmi 2 Prime, Mi Note and Redmi 2. According to a recent forum post, updates for these devices will be suspended for both the closed and public betas. Additionally, it stated that the MIUI Global Beta ROM from July 11, 2016 will be the absolute final beta upgrade for the aforementioned mobile devices.
Xiaomi says it was a difficult decision to drop those six devices from upcoming updates but that it was necessary for moving forward and ensuring the best MIUI performance. As technology grows, some things simply become obsolete and thus cannot keep up with the rapid advancements. Consequently, the number of consumers still using (effectively) outmoded devices falls below the supply-and-demand infrastructure of the industry. This makes it increasingly difficult and costly to maintain the older systems. In short, Xiaomi cannot keep up with the dwindling number of consumers using older devices and must focus on the ever-growing technology before them.
This is the first time the company has ever dropped devices from receiving updates, though it most certainly will not be the last. Technology is always advancing, and it takes small sacrifices to keep up with it.
List of Eligible Devices
Despite the drop, there is still a long list of devices that will continue to receive the MIUI updates (beginning with MIUI 10) such as the Mi 5/5s/Plus, Mi 6, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4S, Mi Mix, Mi 4c, Redmi Y1/Lite, Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 2, Redmi Note 3/Pro, Mi Note 3, Redmi Note 4/4X, Mi A1, Redmi 5A, Mi 5X, Mi Max, Redmi Note 5A, Mi Max 2, Redmi 4A, Redmi 4/4X, Redmi Pro, Redmi 3/3s/Prime, Mi Pad 3 and Redmi 3x.
Release Date TBA
There is currently no release date set for the MIUI 10 ROM. However, it is speculated that a launch will be expected around July or August. Then the OTA will be around November of 2018.
As is traditional with most companies, Xiaomi immediately began work on its new MIUI 10 not long after the MIUI 9 was released. The company’s vice president has said that this new update will pass up speed for smarts. Seeing as the MIUI 9 is already impressively fast, this move makes a great deal of sense.
The new MIUI will take the same high speed as the previous one then add the convenience of the smart voice assistant to aid in hands free handling of the device. In addition to this, battery power will once again be increased, new emojis will be available for texting, new settings menu, et cetera.
Version For Android Users
Here is the part Android users are waiting for. While MIUI 9 was specific to the Android 7.0/7.1 Nougat, the MIUI 10 will be available to users that have updated their mobile devices to the 8.0 Oreo operating system. This OS comes with multi-window, picture-in-picture mode, smart text, Google Play Protect, and so much more.
That’s All We Have
Until Xiaomi rolls out the update through OTA, the MIUI 10 will not be available for direct download. Once it is, consumers will find their respective devices running smoother and with a more sophisticated operating system. Even so, XIaomi will continue looking into better technology and making their devices—and by proxy, Android devices, better for the every day consumer.
So, be on the lookout for the new MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM for your Xiaomi smartphones and Android devices.
