In February of this year, Xiaomi created quite a stir with the public by releasing the Xiaomi Mi 5C. While the phone itself is sleek and nice to look at, there is quite a large difference in performance between it and higher-end devices. Most people that use the Mi 5C use it because of how it looks rather than its performance. Also, with the release of this phone came the release of the first chip created by Xiaomi, the Surge S1.
While the Surge S1 was made on the lower to middle end of the market spectrum, it performed quite well. It runs on the 28nm process node, which would, in theory, make its performance less than average. However, it has proven to be sufficient in its functions. As of right now, the Surge S1 is only used in the Xiaomi Mi 5C, but the Xiaomi manufacturer and Nokia are teaming up in order to possibly use the chip in other devices and models as well, although this is unsure, as it is unknown whether the Surge S1 will get a continuation or not. One thing is for certain, however, and that is that the Surge S2 has the green light on production, and it’s only natural that the first phone that it should be released with is the Xiaomi Mi 6C.
Leaked Information on the Mi 6C
Recently, there was a price drop in the Mi 5C. This is a dead giveaway that a newer model will be released soon. After the price drop, some leaks were dropped about the 6C including rumors of a Snapdragon 660 chip, as well as 6GB of RAM. Now, to some, this might sound familiar. The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 has identical features. So what will set the 6C apart? How will it make a name for itself? This is where the Surge S2 comes into play.
What is the Surge S2 Chip?
The Surge S2 chip has 16nm process technology. According to a Chinese blogging website called Weibo, the Surge S2 will have an octa-core processor configuration. This processor configuration is based on ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture and includes eight cores with four Cortex-A73 cores that operate at up to 2.7 GHz and four lower-power Cortex-A53 cores that operate at 2 GHz.
Xiaomi Mi 6C Description
Apparently a photo or two of the new phone were leaked, and from what was shown in the photo(s), it comes with a metal casing and a large screen, although it is not a full-screen. There is still a home button located on the bottom, and it is nothing extraordinary to look at which could mean that Xiaomi is focusing on a budget crowd for its marketing strategies. Even though it will more than likely be aimed toward a budget crowd, it is still a step up, as it is available with 4GB RAM/64GB storage as well as 6GB RAM/128GB storage options.
The initial price is set to be fairly reasonable. It is said that the price will begin at 1699 yuan, which is $258. Comparatively speaking, this price is on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to smartphones. It is very affordable.
While we still have little information about the Mi 6C, what we do know is that it will be a step up for budget smartphone buyers. With the introduction of the Surge S2 chip, the processing power will be much greater than that of the previous Mi 5C, and there will be more space on the phone as well. Many people are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Mi 6C.
