But why and how have they been able to make such an impact?

Mainly this is down to their high, state-of-the-art, technological devices, that come at affordable prices. Some of the products that have made them a growing company are the Mi 4, Mi 5, Mi Note, Redmi Note 3 and many more.

Xiamoi really are becoming a leading smartphone manufacturer in the world.

Design and Appearance

Xiamoi Mi Band 1S

  • Waterproof

  • Dustproof

  • Shockproof

The manufactured body design of the Mi Band 1S is largely similar, and based in concept to that of the original Mi Band. The is crafted from military style aluminum, and the whole body has a poly-carbonate vanish coating. The Mi 1S device has a smooth oval shape that allows it to fit into the Xiamoi Mi bands.

  • 36 x 14 x 9 mm

  • 5.5 grams

The Xiamoi Mi Band 1S is a little bit heavier (13.5g heavier to be exact) than the original Mi Band, and is also proportionally thicker too – this is because they have added a new heart rate sensor feature.

Xiamoi Mi Band 2

  • Water resistant

  • Shock resistant

  • Dust resistant

Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is the latest product by Xiaomi and is a little bigger than the Mi Band 1S.

  • Length (40.3 mm) x width (15.7 mm) x thickness (10.7 mm)

  • 7 grams

The band strap for the Mi 1S is slightly thinner than the newer Mi Band 2, and the strap holes in the Mi 1S are larger too than the Mi2. The Mi Band 2 has a more stylish button appeal, a metallic gray – as appose to a plain white one. The Mi Band 1S is made of thermoplastic whereas the Mi Band 2 is created using silicon.

Both Xiaomi Mi Band 1S and Mi Band 2 have gold plated charging terminals, however the Mi Band 2 are smaller and more powerful. Both have similar looking charging terminal, but despite the appearance you will not be able to cross convert the cables to one another.

When the bands for each are fitted inside a strap there is a noticeable difference. The Mi Band 1S is bulkier and sticks out more than the Mi Band 2.

Heart Rate Sensor

Both of the Xiamoi Mi Band 1S and the Mi Band 2 have a built in heart rate sensor. However, this does not mean that they are both the same.

Due to the Mi Band 2 being the most recent production, the heart rate sensor is more up to date, more accurate and more responsive. The heart rate sensor in Xiomi Mi Band 2 has more area exposed between the heart rate sensor and the individual’s surface. In addition, Xiomi has improved the algorithms in Mi Band 2 and its sensor is more accurate and quicker than the Mi Band 1S.

The Display

This really is a no thinker, the Mi Band 1S doesn’t even have a proper display – all it has are colorful LED lights that flash to indicate notifications.

Mi Bands can be synchronized with your smartphone to help you better understand the data on them. With the Mi Band 1S you were obviously heavily reliant on your smartphone hands device to be able to read the data from your band. This has all changed with the Mi Band 2.

Furthermore, the Mi 2 has an 0.42-inch OLED display, which shows the heart rate, time, date and the steps so you don’t have to depend on your smartphone to have that information. Even though the screen is energy efficient, scratch-resistant glass and anti-fingerprint coating, it isn’t a touch device.

The sensors that Mi 2 has are heart rate and military gravity and some of it features are call reminder, measurement of heart rate, pedometer, sleep management, SMS reminding, wrist lift screen on. In addition, Mi Brand 2 is IP 67 certified, which indicates that Mi Band 2 is water, dust and shock resistant.

Battery Consumption

Once again, it looks like the Mi Band 2 will have the advantage here. The updated features have a huge part to play, you would think that with the addition of a display to the Mi Band 2 it would consume more energy – but it doesn’t.

What the manufacturers state:

Mi Band 1S battery life

  • 10 days

Mi Band 2 battery life

  • 20 days

Mi Band 1 battery

  • 45 mAH

Mi Band 2 battery

  • 70 mAH

The producers believe that Mi Band 2 can spend about 20 days with only being charged once and in constant use. The group of Xiaomi Today has done an experiment to check the battery duration of Mi Band 2 and it was registered that for 14 days with a moderate use, the Mi 2 was still working and the battery was over 93%. The battery of the newest Mi Band 2 is of 70mAh, the standby time is 20 days and the charging time is about 3 hours.

Another time, the group of Xiaomi Today has done the same battery testing experience with the Mi Band 1S, which its battery is 45 mAh and, unfortunately, the battery died after 10 days.

Both are very similar when it comes to the application section. The Mi Band 1S has the same applications on it as the Mi Band 2.

  • Sleep tracker

  • Heart rate monitor

  • Alarm

  • Fitness monitor

  • Bluetooth App syncing

  • Phone unlocking

  • Incoming call alerts

When it comes to application comparison, both Mi Band 1S and Mi Band 2 have the Xiomi app to connect via Bluetooth 4.0 plus the App is accessible for Android and iOS. Although the Mi Band 2 is a product that is more upgraded than the 1S, both Mi Band 1S and Mi 2 are very similar when it comes to App comparison.

Other features

Despite the already mentioned similar features in regards to applications, the two Mi Bands also share other common system features.

They are:

  • Pedometer

  • Message Reminder

  • Sleep Tracker

  • Call Reminder

  • Xiamoi Phone Unlocking Feature

However, even though the features may be the same, the characteristics are not. The upgrades and new algorithms that have been implemented in the Mi Band 2 mean it can run smoother, better and faster than its previous version.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 1S is being sold for $13.59 and the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 costs $38.19. Even though Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is a bit more expensive than Mi Band 1S, Mi 2 is considered a better product than Mi Band 1S due to its qualities, features and upgrades.

Overall summary

The Mi Band 1S is better than the Mi Band 2 in terms of price, – obviously with it being the newer product it will be more expensive – has a sturdier design and it smaller in dimension and weight.

In terms of display, battery life and consumption, design, and updates, the Mi Band 2 is far superior to the Mi Band 1S.

To put an overview on it all, we feel the Mi Band 2 is the better product. It is a product that offers more and can seriously be the new face of Xiamoi!
